Victoria Youth Musical Theatre Company is proud and excited to present Les Miserables (School Edition) as our 2012 Senior Performance Camp. This camp will run for two weeks and is open to performers age 13-18. VYMTC will be the first community theatre group to present this show on the Island.
“This epic story recounts the struggle against adversity in 19th century France. Imprisoned for stealing a loaf of bread, petty thief Jean Valjean is released from his 19-year term and not only becomes and honest man, but the mayor of a prosperous town and a loving adoptive father - violating his parole in the process. The relentless Inspector Javert, who makes a decent life for Valjean impossible, consequently pursues him. Only years later, after Valjean proves his mettle during a bloody student uprising and saves the life of a young man hopelessly in love with Valjean’s adopted daughter, does the ex-convict finally feel fully redeemed.” (MTI Shows Inc.)
Specially adapted to best suit young performers, the School Edition of Les Miserables
has a slightly abridged running time of two hours while maintaining the classic integrity
of the original masterpiece.
Adapted from Victor Hugo’s timeless novel, the musical version of Les Miserables allows a new generation to experience the inspirational story of Jean Valjean.
Youth aged 13-18 are invited to enroll for Les Miserables. All who audition will be cast in the show, auditions are for specific casting purposes only. Performers who are of the age of 12 and have participated with VYMTC in the past are also invited to audition, provided that a parent or guardian has reviewed the script and OK’d it with the Director.
